Ford Announces More Hybrids in the Future

The struggling Dearborn-based car manufacturer Ford Motor Company announced that it will be producing more hybrid vehicles in the near future as the demand for fuel-efficient vehicles increases. The company said that they are facing engineering challenges in the development of these future hybrid vehicles.

Nancy Gioia, the Director of Ford’s Sustainable Mobility Technologies and Hybrid Vehicle Programs, said in a conference at Ann Arbor, Michigan that Ford will be producing more hybrid vehicles aside from the current Ford Escape Hybrid and the Mercury Mariner Hybrid.

The announcement is the first hint about Ford’s future plans for hybrid vehicles since April this year. During that month, FoMoCo President and Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally appointed an executive to a new position which is tasked with addressing environmental concerns.

German Car Manufacturers Going “green”

The global community is now under siege of the global warming issue. To counter the huge amount of greenhouse gases being released by vehicles all over the world, car manufacturers continue to develop ways to cut down the fuel consumption of their production vehicles.

The American International Automobile Dealers Association’s (AIADA) newsletter recently reported that German carmakers are among the players in the auto industry which have taken a keen interest in producing environment friendly cars. This may be their response to the ongoing debate on the stricter EURO6 emission standards set to be implemented in the year 2015. The steps being taken by German car makers are also a big help in the protection of the environment.

Upcoming Hybrids in the U.s. Market

American motorists have feared the increase in gas price since it reached the three dollar mark last summer. This resulted to the number of car buyers turning their backs on gas-guzzling vehicles which have dominated the roads of the United States in the past years.
